Rigging rotation system test at NOV BLM

info -

A few weeks ago, we visited NOV-BLM (Marine and Construction) in Carquefou to test the rigging rotation system 👷⛵.

What is it?
This type of system allows the sails to rotate around a vertical axis, enabling optimal sail orientation to more effectively capture the wind. This mechanism can be operated manually or automatically, always with the goal of adjusting the sail angle to best harness the wind.

The rigging of the Neoliner Origin (Solid Sails Chantiers de l’Atlantique – booms, masts, and sails) will be able to rotate up to 360° – in both directions 🔄 – thanks to this system.

What are the advantages?
This rotation system will enable the maximum capture of wind power through continuous sail orientation adjustment, while minimizing the need for complex maneuvers. 🌬️ This will simplify sail management. Moreover, it will be easier to quickly adapt to changes in wind direction, thus improving the performance of the Neoliner Origin on its north transatlantic line.

A big thank you to NOV-BLM for their work and for their hospitality during the Factory Acceptance Tests of this unique rotation system 🙏
